Members of our church are active in our local community. Some of the projects sponsored by our church are listed below. We encourage you to be a part of one or more of these important missions.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian-based organization that makes it possible for a family with a low income to build and purchase their own home. FUMC Hurst is one of the top sponsors of Trinity Habitat for Humanity home construction projects in Tarrant County. In 2008 we fulfilled a commitment to build ten homes with Habitat. The church raises $50,000 for each house, and provides many volunteers over several weeks to build the house. Other members help by providing lunch for the volunteers and making reminder phone calls. Adopt-A-School
Seventy percent of the students at Bellaire Elementary fall below the poverty level. FUMC Hurst provides a tutor/mentoring program, school supplies, spring and fall clothing drives, winter coat drive, and youth-sponsored Christmas shopping spree. Church members also volunteer by reading with at-risk students, helping pack food into backpacks to give to hungry children for the weekends, and in other short-term programs. In 2005 and 2007, FUMC Hurst received Outstanding Community Partner in Education awards for our work with Bellaire Elementary. To learn how to get involved, contact Debbie Joiner.
Mission Central and Coat of Many Colors
FUMC Hurst is the largest sponsor of Mission Central, which seeks to serve and empower our neighbors in need in the Hurst, Euless, Bedford (HEB) area, and its clothing resale shop Coat of Many Colors. By feeding, healing, clothing, guiding, and assisting our neighbors in need, Mission Central seeks to embody the visible word of God in Jesus Christ. If you would like to participate by donating food, clothing, money, or volunteer time to this organization, email Mission Central or call 817.595.0011, or contact Coat of Many Colors at 817.428.2450.
