Caring Ministry Sunday Highlighted FUMC Hurst Caring and Support Groups

We believe that as Christians, we are called to bear one another’s burdens and be instruments of God’s grace and healing. On Sunday, September 19, we took time in worship to recognize the caring and support ministries offered by FUMC Hurst. Participants in these ministries often are overlooked because they are servant leaders. Through foyer displays, worship liturgy, and an appreciation meal, we shined the light on those who extend Christ’s grace and care to a hurting world.
Caring ministries are special ministries of the church that focus on relationships. Though every ministry of the church can be called a “caring” ministry, at FUMC Hurst we have specific ministries that fall under this umbrella. They are:
- PASTORAL COUNSELING
Pastoral counseling is available for those who would like to discuss faith issues or personal concerns. Call the church office or contact one of our clergy for more information. - STEPHEN MINISTRY
Lay persons who are trained in pastoral ministry, a Stephen Minister can help you through a difficult time or crisis in your life. A Stephen Minister promises to be a faithful friend, to refrain from lecturing, preaching or judging, and to maintain strict confidentiality. Click here for more information about Stephen Ministry. Men@Work is a group of men from FUMC Hurst who will come in pairs to your home at your request to help with small jobs around the house. (You pay for supplies and materials.) Guys can change light bulbs, trim shrubs, help with computers, move heavy items, perform minor home repairs and more. If you need help, or if you would like to serve with Men@Work, call the church office, 817.282.7384. - PRAYER MINISTRY
Prayer is the needful practice of all peoples and the exercise of faith and hope. You may complete a prayer request form online or fill out a Prayer Request Card and place it in an offering plate or in the prayer box located in the narthex. Prayer Shawls are available for those in the midst of a life struggle, such as the loss of a loved one or an illness. If you know someone who is in need of a prayer shawl (they do not have to be a member of FUMC Hurst) or if you would like to participate in this ministry that meets in the Bride’s Room (Wesley 120) between 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, contact Eileen Thrash at 817.282.2424. - SOUP SISTERS
This group meets once a month at the church to prepare and deliver soups or casseroles to persons in need due to illness, disability or death in the family. Contact Sandra Hill at or 817.282.7384 x. 17 for more information. - LAY CHAPLAIN MINISTRY
Lay Chaplains are laypersons whose primary task is to make weekly visits to persons in rehabilitation centers. They offer care, support and help persons maintain connections when they are unable to be present at church. Contact Henry Schraub at for more information. - MONTHLY GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP
Offers information and support for those dealing with the death of a loved one. The group meets the second Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in Wesley 124 or via Zoom. Contact Rev. Donna McKee at for more information. - CAREGIVING: SPACE FOR GRACE
Offering support for those in a caregiving role. Caregiving takes on many forms. If you are the one doing the caregiving, it can be difficult to find God in the midst of the daily challenges. And yet, God is there. Let's find God's grace together. The group meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. in Wesley 120 (Bride's room). Last Stop Alcoholics Anonymous Group and Last Stop AL-ANON Family Group meet weekly. We welcome all interested individuals at our 12–step meetings. All are open discussion format, and have a “home meeting” flavor. All are non-smoking. - AA meets in Wesley 203; Al Anon meets in Wesley 202.
