FUMC Hurst 2021 Scholarship Recipients
Aug 26, 2021 | by Rev. Sarah Garza
Each year the Scholarship Committee, in partnership with the FUMC Hurst Foundation, works to provide scholarships for students who are preparing to engage in post secondary education. The Reeves Anderson Scholarship is for our students who have just graduated high school and will be beginning their college careers, while the Ima Jean Boenker Scholarship is open to students pursuing any kind of higher education, whether they are starting to work on their undergraduate degree or are older adults going back to school for a career change. Applicants are asked to share about their involvement in the church and their communities, and to speak to the value of education in their lives and in the future careers they plan to pursue. We celebrate the following students as recipients of the 2021 scholarships, and hold all students in prayer as they pursue an education and seek to live out God’s call on their lives.
Laura Dunlap
My name is Laura Dunlap! I am a sophomore at Southern Methodist University. I am majoring in Music Education with a minor in Arts Management. This year I will be a part of the Meadows Wind Ensemble, Meadows Symphony Orchestra, and marching band. I am also part of the Sigma Phi Lambda sorority. I’m excited to make more friends and continue my path to being a band director.
Andrew Friend
I’m working on my BA of Fine Arts at Stephen F Austin State University. My degree is in Film and Photography and I have worked on two full length summer feature films during my time with SFA.
Angelina Lacy
I will be a sophomore at OCU studying psychology. I’m most excited to have more of a normal semester as well as starting classes for my child advocacy minor. Being in school has made my love for people even stronger, and I am thinking about going into social work in the future.
Lilly Melson
My name is Lilly Melson and I am so honored to have received this scholarship! In the fall I will be attending Baylor University studying Health Science Studies with a pre-Med concentration. I hope to also minor in Spanish and explore some of the other activities Baylor has to offer like running the Baylor Line. After my studies are done I plan to specialize in Endocrinology and hopefully travel the world.
Mackenzie Worthy
My name is Mackenzie Worthy and I am a sophomore in college. I am studying biology in undergrad and then I will get my master's to become a physician's assistant. I plan to be involved in the women's soccer team, a local church, and the FCA club at my school. This year, I am excited for a fresh start. I hope to succeed in the classroom as well as on the soccer field.
