The Upper Room Daily Devotional Guide is familiar to many of us (You can get a free copy at the Welcome Center). However, what you may not know is that The Upper Room is a global ministry that offers many publications, programs, prayer support, and other resources to help believers of all ages and denominations move to a deeper level of faith and service to God.
One of the programs of Upper Room is the 5 Day Academy of Spiritual Formation and nine members of our church attended a 5 Day at Prothro Center on Lake Texoma the first week in February. Judy Holloway, one of team leaders, gave this description of the experience:
“Upper Room Academy for Spiritual Formation is a wonderful opportunity within a supportive, diverse community to gather with others for growth, prayer, study and worship to experience formation in Christ (mind, body and spirit) for the sake of the world. The retreat center, overlooking beautiful Lake Texoma offers warm hospitality, great food and accommodations for the week. There are times of quiet reflection, rest, listening circles, worship and learning with two lectures every day from internationally known scholars and teachers. Thanks to Upper Room for the blessing of the Academy!”
Others in the group said:
“The week, consisting of listening, pondering, praying, worshiping and being in community with others, is an indescribable gift and one I am truly thankful for."- Fannette Welton. “Spiritual Formation Academy, through presentations and reflection, provides encouragement for digging deeper into ideas I hold about God while exploring new ideas about God. I always leave with an enhanced relationship with God.”-Carol Sue Marshall “New every morning…Academy blesses me.”-Kelly Fulghum
