Meet Kathleen Gilbert
Jul 10, 2023 |
Kathleen Gilbert was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, but after spending two years in Iowa for graduate school, she moved to North Texas for a job in 1998. She meant to visit all the United Methodist churches in the Mid-Cities before choosing a church home, but she felt so comfortable at FUMC Hurst that she joined almost immediately. She now lives with her mother, Helen Sample, and two adorable dogs in Richland Hills.
Kathleen has worked for HEB ISD for the last 25 years, first as a French and social studies teacher at Hurst Jr. High, and since 2011, as a social studies curriculum writer and teacher coach. Starting in July of 2023, she will be employed as the K-12 Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator for the district.
As a longtime member of the Point of Grace Sunday school class, Kathleen has made many close friendships at the church. She has been a member of United Women of Faith, both a student and facilitator of Disciple Bible Study and an adult Sunday school teacher. In January of 2023, she and seven other intrepid students of the Bible began Disciple I: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study. They have almost finished their study of the Old Testament and will begin studying the New Testament in August. In addition, she is very excited to begin a term as unit president of United Women of Faith this year.
