Michael Redmond is a retired UMC elder who has recently agreed to be the lead facilitator in the Friendship Group that meets on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in Wesley 210. In September and October, Michael will be focusing on the history and unique teachings of the United Methodist Church. Here’s more about Michael:
I was born in 1949 and lived in Oak Cliff (a suburb of Dallas, Texas) until I moved way to attend college and serve in the military. I met my late wife, Cindy, in 1997. We were married the same year. I lost her to cancer in 2017. I have four daughters (3 from Cindy and 1 from me), three grandsons, and two granddaughters. I also have a cat.
I attended the University of Texas (Austin), SMU, and Texas A&M at Commerce. My first career was in the world of information technology, consulting with all types of manufacturing companies. In 1984, I began my career in the ministry part-time and attended Perkins School of Theology at SMU.
In 2002, when I started on the track to become an ordained elder in the UMC, I began my career as a full-time UMC pastor, serving in my first appointment while attending Perkins School of Theology again to complete the educational requirements for ordination. I was ordained in 2007 and over the years served several UMC churches in the Central Texas Conference. I retired from full-time ministry in 2019.
