Noticed Anything Different in Our Sanctuary?
Feb 23, 2023 |
Have you noticed anything that is different in our sanctuary in February 2023? Look carefully. New carpet? No. New stained-glass pictures? No. New video screens? No, we have been enjoying them for many months. Well, maybe. Did you look carefully around the screens? Top, sides? Bottom? YES!
The wood paneling (wainscot) surrounding each of the two screens is now completely finished, and the “look” is - as was originally designed – elegant!
For their work of almost three months, we give a huge THANK YOU to three colleagues. Our own, Lew Crawford, a member of First United Methodist Church for almost twenty years, his wife Sherrie, his long-time friend and master craftsman, Andy Reddick, have worked diligently and skillfully to create an excellent completion of the installation of the two video screens in our sanctuary that originally began under the leadership of our former pastor, Philip Rhodes. When first being made aware of the task to artfully complete the task, Lew perceived the difficulty that was to be encountered. Knowing the craftsmanship gifts of his friend, he was able to obtain the services of Andy Reddick, who had just completed his last project – that of creating rustic frames and doors on the movie set of Season Three of The Chosen.
The quote, “Excellence is perseverance in the presence of obstacles,” has been true of this endeavor. Why? Some of the materials needed to match the exact shade and quality of the surrounding panels that had been installed when the sanctuary was constructed in 1988 were no longer available. Through skill and ingenuity, these three artisans repurposed much of existing materials, and with the assistance of Sherrie, who, after the existing grill cloth was tediously removed from the walls, cut the cloth to exact measurements as only a loving seamstress can do, to replicate the pattern of the original paneling.
We express our gratitude to Lew, Sherrie and Andy for their loving contribution, and are thankful for their willingness to use their gifts to beautify our sanctuary.
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10
