Your FUMC Hurst Story: Kelsey Lacey and United Women in Faith
May 2, 2022 | by Sarah Patrick
For this installment in the “Your FUMC Hurst Story” video series, I sat down and talked with Kelsey Lacey, the current president of FUMC Hurst’s United Women in Faith formerly known as United Methodist Women (UMW).
United Methodist Women is a global organization with a legacy that spans over 150 years. It was founded in 1869 by 8 women, and today has nearly half a million members. In 1972, UMW became the first women’s mission organization to be a part of the United Methodist Church Board of Global Ministries.
On March 2, 2022, United Methodist Women rebranded and changed their operating name to United Women in Faith. The name change acts as a way of refreshing the organization to better serve current members and welcome new ones.
Here at FUMC Hurst, United Women in Faith has remained active in the community even during the pandemic. The group is involved in supporting numerous local projects such as putting together disaster relief kits, donating food and helping to serve holiday meals and conducting a coat drive for HEB ISD students.
